    Pack Information

Ensure to gather your travel documents and any necessary medications. We recommend selecting comfortable attire suitable for leisurely strolls and sightseeing. Additionally, consider including one or two elegant outfits for evening outings or dining experiences. Don't forget to pack comfortable walking shoes and swimwear. For winter travel, remember to bring along a lightweight jacket, long underwear, layered clothing, a scarf, and warm socks, especially for desert and mountain excursions. For summer trips, opt for lightweight clothing, sunglasses, and sandals to beat the heat. For a comprehensive packing guide, explore our detailed recommendations in the "3 Things to Pack for Your Trip to Oman" blog post.

    What to Wear

In this cultural setting, modesty holds significant importance, particularly in women's attire. While the locals are accustomed to diverse visitors, we encourage you to prioritize modesty and sensitivity, fostering greater acceptance and communication with your hosts. For women, we advise against wearing revealing or sleeveless tops, and suggest opting for loose-fitting pants or skirts that extend beyond the knee. For men, including collared shirts and long pants in your attire selection is recommended to align with cultural norms and expectations.

    Currency

The most convenient method for obtaining local currency is to use a bank card to withdraw cash as required. Banks and ATMs are readily available in all major cities across Oman. It's important to note that Oman operates on a partially cash-based system. While larger establishments such as hotels, restaurants, supermarkets, and tourist-centric businesses in main cities accept major credit cards, smaller shops typically do not. To ensure smooth transactions during your stay, we suggest keeping a sufficient amount of cash on hand, including small denominations for taxi fares and tipping purposes. When paying by credit card, we advise verifying the receipt before signing, as transactions in unfamiliar currencies may lead to unexpected charges, whether intentional or accidental.

    Food Allergy

Please inform us of any allergies or dietary restrictions you may have! We are committed to accommodating your needs and will communicate them to your driver and accommodations. However, there are a few important points to consider: We cannot guarantee the absence of "traces" of allergens like nuts in containers, bags, or kitchens. While Oman maintains good food standards, they may differ from those in the United States or European countries. For individuals with severe allergies, it may be prudent to bring your own food considering the seriousness of the allergies. Additionally, we cannot control the presence of insects you may encounter. Please exercise caution in circumstances that could potentially impact your allergies. Please let us know of any allergies or dietary restrictions you have! Here's some helpful information for vegans and vegetarians. We will strive to accommodate your needs and will communicate them to your driver and accommodations. However, please note the following: We cannot guarantee the absence of "traces" of allergens such as nuts in containers, bags, or kitchens. Morocco's food standards may differ from those of the United States and other countries. For members of your group with serious conditions, it may be advisable to bring food based on the severity of their allergies. Additionally, we cannot control exposure to insects. Exercise caution in questionable circumstances to avoid any potential allergic reactions.

    My Driver

In Oman, there's a distinction between tour guides and drivers. Tour guides are licensed to provide historical and cultural tours, whereas drivers focus on transportation. However, for our tours, your driver will also serve as your guide throughout Oman. Our drivers, all licensed by the Oman Ministry of Tourism for guiding services, act as your personal cultural ambassadors. They possess extensive knowledge about the country's sights and history. All drivers we collaborate with are proficient in English and capable of effective communication. Should you require a driver fluent in another language, please inform us as alternative options are available.

    Ramadan

Traveling to Oman during Ramadan will impact your trip in several ways. Most notably, there will be limited restaurant options for lunch as many establishments close during the day. Alcohol will not be available for purchase, and shops may open later in the day due to altered schedules. People tend to stay up later after breaking their fast, so expect a shift in daily routines. It's important to note that while tourists are not required to fast, consuming food and beverages in public is prohibited during Ramadan in Oman. Non-Muslim visitors can enjoy meals in their hotels, select restaurants, or opt for outdoor dining away from the public eye. For further insights into how Ramadan may influence your tour, refer to our detailed post on traveling to Oman during Ramadan.

    Plugs And Outlet

In Oman, electrical sockets conform to the UK 3-pin standard (Type G), and the voltage supplied is 220–240 volts. Ensure you bring suitable plug adapters for your mobile phone, camera, laptop, or any other electronic devices you intend to use while traveling. It's essential to note that travel plug adapters do not alter the voltage; they only adapt the plug shape to fit the socket. Therefore, the electricity passing through the adapter remains at the original 220-240 volts supplied by the socket. North American sockets typically provide electricity at a lower voltage range of 110 to 120 volts, unlike the higher voltage in much of the world. While this voltage discrepancy exists, many North American appliances are compatible with higher voltages. However, it's crucial to verify that your specific appliance can handle the 220-240 volts common in Oman and that you have the appropriate adapter plug for your devices.
